Interesting Computer Fact
![]() | "The First Computer Bug" Sometimes termed "The Mother of Modern Computing", programmer Grace Hopper was responsible for finding the first instance of an actual "bug" in a computer. While investigating a malfunction in the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator in September 1945, she discovered a 2 inch moth that had become trapped between the contacts of a relay. She said that from that time on, whenever a computer had problems, it was said to have bugs. However, contrary to popular opinion, this wasn't the original coining of the term. At least as far back as Edison's time, the term "bug" was used to describe flaws in a system. In fact, it is thought that this usage of the word dates back to the 1400s. |
